"'The moon appears when the water is still' is most likely De Backer’s most personal album to date. Most of the time she plays with great restraint but with a commanding, soulful voice. She often employs extended breathing techniques but always lets the music flow naturally. De Backer, Bral and Vertessen’s dynamics are delicate and minimalist but suggest an organic equilibrium. The music, with its suggestive titles, is introspective and intimate, offering imaginative, fragmented images and rare, poetic beauty."

Inspired by registrations from their musical walk along the Belgian coastline in 2021, Hanne De Backer invites Raf Vertessen and Andreas Bral again to create the third album of g a b b r o .

Starting from written material by Hanne, the trio develops a new sound where there is room for contemplation and introspection without falling silent. Sometimes the music develops subtle and tender, then it breaks out with the clarinet screaming for solace or the piano and drums that are about to levitate. The three musicians constantly support and challenge one another, their eyes on the horizon and their ears on edge.
